Granting: Letters of Inquiry
Please carefully review the Eligibility requirements. If the SOS interest areas and funding preferences are compatible with the needs of your nonprofit organization, you are invited to submit a Letter of Inquiry.
Letters of Inquiry (LOI) are evaluated to determine whether the organization’s mission and proposed project fit within SOS eligibility guidelines. The proposed project’s feasibility and sustainability as well as the organization’s ability to plan, implement, evaluate and sustain the project are other factors evaluated.
To submit a Letter of Inquiry, you must first Register Your Organization. Once approved (within a week) you will receive an email with a username and password which will enable you to login your organization and upload your Letter of Inquiry. If your organization has registered in the past, you only need to login, however, please UPDATE your Organizational Details information by selecting "Modify Account" to reflect new project information. Letters of Inquiry will be accepted starting September 1, 2016 until September 30, 2016 at 5:00 PM for the current grant cycle.
Along with other grantmakers in the region, SOS uses the Missouri Common Grant Application Short Form for Letters of Inquiry. The Common Grant Application was developed by the Gateway Center for Giving and representatives from the St. Louis grantmaking community, including SOS. The CGA is designed to help make the grantmaking process simpler and more efficient for grant seekers. It allows both Missouri grantmakers and grantseekers to work from a common set of questions that reinforce solid nonprofit practices and saves nonprofit organizations time and effort by enabling them to use a single form for many different grant applications.
Using this link: http://www.centerforgiving.org/ProgramsEvents/Programs/CommonGrantApplication.aspx, click on “Short Form” to download the Letter of Inquiry Form. After downloading the "Short Form", click on "Budget Templates" and download the project and organizational budget templates.
The CGA short form requests a two-page brief organizational summary, the IRS 501(c)(3) determination letter, a project budget and the organization's current budget. PLEASE INCLUDE ALL FOUR ATTACHMENTS WITH YOUR SHORT FORM. If you are applying for a multi-year grant, you must include a project budget for all three years of funding. Organizations will be notified in late November if they have been chosen to submit a full proposal.
Once the forms are complete, login to the SOS website, select "Modify Account" and update any changes in your Organizational Details, next select "Upload Your LOI" (Letter of Inquiry) button and upload your documents. You can upload each file individually or as one large PDF.
